Why Do Ppl Think Christians Believe The End Of The Age Is 2012?
Why do some ppl think Christians believe the end of the age (world) will be 2012? Do you not know we are not to set dates for no one will know the day or hour?
Mat 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
We are told to keep watch…
Mat 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

In the book of Daniel it says that there will be a great increase in knowledge(Internet) and transportation at the end time.
Dan 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
here is a scripture that talks about chariots jostling in the streets in the time when Jacob (Israel) is restored (autos with lights on).
Nah 2:4 The chariots rage in the streets; they rush to and fro in the broad ways: the appearance of them is like torches; they run like the lightnings.
Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
The fig tree is the state of Israel. and it became a state in 1948.
a generation is explained in Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.”
Gen 6:3
Take it with a grain of salt. I’m only human I can make mistakes.
You make a blanket assumption when you say people think Christians believe 2012 is the end of the age (world). You lose credibility when you make blanket assumptions. It makes you look unlearned and narrow-minded.
I suspect that you simply wanted to make a statement of your own personal beliefs and used this medium in which to do that.
My personal opinion is that it’s not cool to use a round about way to get your point across. Also, I believe it’s a waste of time to try to ‘convert’ people who are not open to conversion. Go tell it to people who are open and want to hear the message. To do otherwise just offends people unnecessarily. You can lead a horse to water; but you can’t make him drink…
If you’ll pay attention to the teachings of Jesus you’ll see that he never forced himself onto anyone who was not interested in hearing what he had to say, with the exception of the Pharisees and Saducees. Jesus held them to a higher standard because they were the spiritual leaders of the Jews.
It is based on the ancient Mayan Calendar, which was one of the most accurate calendrical reckoning systems ever known. The Mayans were really obsessive-compulsive about dates it seems. Their cyclical system begins in 3113 B.C. and supposedly ends in 2012 A.D. (Yes, the Mayans did NOT exist in 3113 B.C., but their calendar was set up to begin on that date, so for some inexplicable reason that date was important to them, which is weird.)
I say supposedly, because it is not clearly indicated that 2012 will be an “ending” in the Armageddon sense. It may just be a turning over of the calendar like the odometer in your car hitting all “000000″ then turning back over again. Your car doesn’t instantly fall apart when the odo hits “000000.” (Usually.)
The actual belief of the world ending is Mayan in origin because their calendar ends on 2012. It is also thought to be the shifting year from the age of aquarius to the age of pisces. Many christians seem to think that the age of pisces has to do with Jesus because of the fish reference. So, it seems that everything comes into conjunction for the world to end (based on teo pieces of evidence…). However, what no one seems to think on this subject is that the mayan calendar restarts after 2012 and keeps going and that there are several incongruities that stick out like sore thumbs in reference to the picses/Jesus thing when trying to say 2012 will be the end of the world. There is evidence proving one way but there is evidence of the same strength pointing the other.
Because if you watch the geography channel or the history channel they talk about how the world is going to end in 2012 by if they don’t find 10 sculls. And also they were talking about how all of this illusinating stuff will happen like tornado’s, hurricane’s, earthquakes, all of this stuff. but i really don’t believe it but i guess we will have to watch and see
I only believe it of the multitudes of Christians who say (here and elsewhere) that they believe it.
I agree – there doesn’t seem to be anything specifically Biblical about that date. It seems to coincide with a rather contrived reading of a variety of cultural prophecies. You know, the kind that subscribe to the philosophy:
“If it doesn’t fit – force it!”
Because some have injected the Mayan calender into the mix. Imagine that taken a pagan dating system and apply it to Christian prophecy.
You have pointed out correctly that no one except the Father knows.
I personally believe it going to comes when everyone is feeling good about the world, no worries then BAM!
But I suppose though, with all the guesses someone will win the end time lottery. Even then is this person going to brag to God about it. I can see it already; “GOD I KNEW IT, I JUST KNEW.” And God’s response; “YOU GUESSED FOOL.”
Because some of us don’t listen too well. It doesn’t really build credibility either.
More ammo for the anti theists. At least there is some level of identification in this regard.
It really is nice when both sides can recognize the nonsensical.
Christians effectively looking to Baal for answers about the future.
Call me crazy, but I believe these are both a bit ‘problematic’ for us, no?
well i am an atheist and it still scares the crap out of me.
not that i beleive god is going to walk the earth, but it had to do with the mayan calander, and everything is supposed to allign or something, idk.
but i guess dont beleive everything you hear.
the world was supposed to end in 1999 too lol.
I don’t think that.
I understand you believe a zombie ran around healing the blind before floating away to be with giant sky daddy. And that giant sky daddy will be back to scoop only those who believe in him. And that he listens and responds if you talk to him.
That’s what I think you believe.
yes you are right
people think that they may know the season–which i believe is what Jesus said “when you see these things look up for your redemption is drawing neigh.”
They are saying that the Inca Calender completes during that year. Also there are a lot of symbolic meanings during and dealing with that year.
however,
Remember what Jesus also said about signs.
thanks,
beacause theyre uneducated doofuses. they cant get it through their thick heads tht the bible was made not to be taken literally but to be used to teach us lessons. most of them, with few exceptions are selfcentered arrogant stubborn intolerant assholes tht shouldnt be taken seriously. so instead of freaking out about it just dont think of it. its a ridiculous prophecy tht will once again never be fulfilled.
Because Harold Camping is saying that.
He’s blasting this message all over Christian radio, which I gather you don’t listen to.
Some Christians do believe that.
Most don’t.
I remember…at precisely 12:00 a.m. on the New Year 2000, my son’s neighbor (a religious fanatic) came out of her house and looked up into the sky, as if expecting to see Him coming right then and there.
Now, nothing wrong with expecting Him any minute…but she was SOOO disappointed…actually crushed.
It’s so sad…
i heard that [& i'm a christian] the mayans predicted it. they also predicted other things. i’m not sure what, but i saw a show on the history channel about it. lol.
can you answer mine???
thanksss.http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…
it’s not christians, it’s a bunch of people.
the date comes from the mayans who were very skilled with numbers and dates and astrology. they predicted the end of the world would be something 2012.
Every person I’ve ever come across who believed in the 2012 doomsday prophecy was a Christian. Every single one. I’m not saying only Christians believe it; I’m just speaking from experience.
i didn’t know that this had anything to do about the christians? it was the mayans that predicted that the world would end on that year.
Plenty of ‘em on this site do. Just check some of the questions about it.
I’m not saying they all do, and considering that the Mayans would be considered pagan, I can’t see why they do. But some do.
Massive sunspots and solar flares in 2011.
The “scientific” reason.
Best regards.
well i dnt believe tht or nething. no one noes so pplz need 2 quit actin liik they do :] nd besidez im graduatin tht year
much luv
blair
Delusional people have been predicting the end of the world for 2000 years.
Because many people in this section ask “Is the world ending in 2012?!!!!”
From a book written in 2000 called the Mayan Prophecies by Gilbert and Cottrell
Probably heard one guy say it, then painted with a broad brush to ALL.
I think that’s a New Age thing.
I agree!
I can only pray that it would happen in my lifetime.
Because they’re saying it is…?
Jesus said nothing about 2012; it was the Mayans who set that as the date for doomsday… and judging by current events, it could be a whole lot sooner than that!!!
I don’t know, perhaps this people thinks that the Mayans were Christians
Just a lot of goofy people on here making fun of Christians is all it is.
