What Is Your Take On The 2012 Doomsday Theory, And The Collision Of The Earth And The Planet Nimbiru?
The main subject of the conversation at my school today was that everybody will die on the 21st of December 2012, due to this planet Nimbiru that will collide with the Earth. I’ve read alot about the theory, and have formulated my own opinion, but I wondered what the people on Yahoo Answers thought?

I don’t beleive in a non existant planet. perhaps an astroid. But, if one was coming ouor way there would be substantial proof beyond the governments control. Mostly I say that because nearly everyone knows someone with a telescope, and if there was a definitive location of a hurdleing space object bound to hit us, many of us would have seen it on our neighbors telescopes.
I do give a bit of credence to another “doomsday” theory. The sign on that day could mean death or renewal. There were two of the same sign. It may just be that there will be a turning point in our civilization, where some large thing will change, causing an end to the way we know things, but humanity will continue on. With the current economic crisis and wars, it could be an atomic bomb, biological warfare on a massive scale or something well within our understanding, not a mystery planet.
Another legend of theirs is that thier civilization ended by the things they took from the earth turning against them. Their houses fell on them, thier dolls chased thier children, etc. Maybe the earth will fight against us with natural disasters that day.
Or maybe, the astronomers in charge of creating the calendar just decided they had gone far enough, and when their ruler wanted them to go further, they said that was the end so they could start something different.
Either way, life is short, so enjoy what you have.
I just watched Nostradamus:2012 yesterday and it was conluded there that The Mayans and Nostradamus’ Prediction about this 2012 doomsday thing is the same.
They are different people who lived in different eras but their predictions ended the same.
Regarding the Nimbiru, the Mayan’s said that but in the Lost Book of Nostradamus the reason that was stated to be the cause of that doomsday is the sun’s alignment in the Milkyway and the extreme heat that we all know we are already experiencing now.

Every thing that was mentioned there is quite possible.
My take on it is simple: any planet close enough to be here in under four years would be an incredibly obvious sight in the sky by now, and would have had noticeable effects on other solar system bodies due to its gravity. Since nothing is out of place and no new objects have been seen in the vicinty we may safely conclude that Nibiru does not exist, therefore, whatever may actually happen on December 21st 2012, it isn’t going to be a planetary collision.
Any decent scientific discussion ultimately results in the understanding that Nibiru (there’s no m in there) is not real and any predictions relating to it passing in 2012 are a bunch of hogwash.
Unfortunately there are a good chunk of people who choose to believe this bunk here on YA despite the scientific evidence against it. I cannot wait until 2012 comes and passes without incident and we can point and laugh at all the people who were so sure some imaginary planet was going to whiz on by.
If Nibiru was real and was on course to arrive here in 2012 it would be easily visible in most amateur astronomical instruments, and thousands of people would have seen it by now and talked about it. You’ll never meet a serious astronomer who actually believes in this crap.
i agree with Arkalius. also i believe if Any of the doomsday theories had any substantial evidence then more officials would focus on it. more people would invest in finding a way to stop it. ^_^ regardless of how much money and power one may have, no one wants to die.
It’s pure baloney. The Mayan Long Count calendar clicks over from 12.19.19.17.19 to 13.0.0.0.0 on 21st December 2012. That’s all there is to it. The Mayans themselves never predicted the end of the world would happen at that time.
All the doomsday predictions attached to this date are, without exception, unscientific nonsense, perpetrated by frauds and hoaxers.
It will be a lovely place when all these doomsday people shut up after 2012. But I might be just dreaming.
The many doomsday theories are so contradicting among each other and against tested everyday physics, that it is a wonder that anybody can actually believe this.
