What Is Your Opinion On The 2012 Doomsday Theories? What Do You Thinks Is Going To Happen?

I don’t believe the world will end, but I do think society isn’t going to hold up well during that time of 2012. I personally thinks there’s going to be riots and crazy stories of suicide and other things along those lines because people will get scared and lose their ability to think straight. What do you think?

I don’t think enough people believe in this crud for it to have any effect at all. Many of the middle school types who have been asking the 32,000 questions about it on Y!A for the past 2 plus years will have grown out of it by then but will still be teenagers.
If there are suicides I hope to see certain people prosecuted, notably Nancy Lieder. We might see how well her story holds up in court as she is being cross examined. If that happens she’ll end up in prison or under medication, maybe a mental hospital. It would do no harm if someone has a crack at the History Channel in the courts either. To hell with them.
I do not personally know any adult who believes this bunk, though many have heard of it. It is adults who run the world, not teenagers. There are a couple of apparent adults on Y!A who seem to believe it but they are two in hundreds. I know where one of them lives from his IP address recorded on another site and it is not at a nerve centre of civilisation.
So I would not worry too much.

Most people who don’t think the date holds any meaning aren’t that educated on it, and the people who say we are “in god’s hands” well god help those simple souls.
Yes the Mayan’s mark Dec 21 2012 as the last day, but that is open to interpretation.
What people find fascinating is how many SEPARATE cultures, from varied times have individually made note of this date. along with interpretations of assorted legends, scriptures, numerological constructions and prophecies.
It has also the date when the milky way’s black hole is aligned with the earth which will either…do nothing at all, or cause heat changes leading to earthquakes, tidal waves etc….
One scientist I heard speaking on this topic said “The least we can do is acknowledge that it is a coincidence (of so many individually mentioning this date).
But before you say you don’t believe in something, learn a little about it first. Unless you are religious of course and then you don’t have to learn anything because god has all the answers (oh to be so stupid).
I hope we live beyond 2012 but a lot of people wake up to themselves, because as you say society wont hold up well with the worlds current situation.

It’s just hype to sell whatever they want to sell or drive people insane. What the mindless idiots who believe this will do is probably kill themselves, more crime will arise, some will sell there businesses, and of course riot.
But the more educated people won’t pay any mind to it, probably will not realize what day it is till they turn on the news. The 2012 myth came from the mayans calender which ended on dec. 12, 2012. The mayans were great at mathematics and astrology, and many of they calanders and scripture proof this. But nowhere in their calender nor scriptures does it state 2012 is the end of the world, it doesn’t even imply this at all, it just simply ends on this date. This is were hollywood comes in and claim “oh this is the end of the world as told by the mayans”. Think of it like this, our new year starts on Jan.1 of every year, but chinese new year sometime changes, this year it fell on jan. 26 last year it fell on feb. 7, but nowhere does it state any of these dates are the end of the world. The same follows for the mayans.

you don’t have to worry because according to science astrology is fake. based on bible’s calculations, Isaac newton figured out the date of apocalypse which is 2060. Still science proves it wrong by saying Human extinction, is a result of the runaway effects of new technology (eg. nanotechnology) or uncontrolled scientific research; terrorist or fundamentalist violence; or destruction of the biosphere. on the other hand science says that apocalypse will set in due to some astronomical cause. Probably a meteor or a black hole will lead to the destruction of the world. According to the islamic viewpoint, no date is written for the apocalypse but God has has predicted seven signs of the apocalypse three of which have come true. Other religions have their own concept of the apocalypse.Bible has its own, same goes for the Quran and vice versa. hence, no one knows whom to to believe and whom not to believe. So, do not worry because no one knows the date of revelation except God who is the mighty ruler.

The world won’t end in 2012.
But people seem to need a reason to be unreasonable, and sometimes that means they have to manufacture a reason (no matter how ridiculous it is to logical minds).
Add to it that there are a small number of unscrupulous people (some even here in Yahoo) that are perpetuating the whole thing for their own twisted ends.

  6. The way I see it the whole idea of 2012 being a doomsday is based on Mayan calendar. Mayans were early central American civilisation. Their civilisation was at the same time as Egypt and Rome. So when you take that in to account it’s easy to see why they stop with their calender when they came to (our year) 2012…
If you would calculate every year from 600BC up to 2012 you would stop.
    it’s just pointless.
I wonder how far Romans and Egyptians went with their calendar…

  7. None of the predictions are scary. Instead I think they are all as stupid as watching a Rob Schneider Film Festival, what IS scary is that some people listen to this nonsense and say “Hey, that could happen”….
    HELL, NO!
What makes ANY sense about saying that a calendar ends- so the world ends, too? How does this relate to ANYTHING ELSE in the world? When your alarm clock goes off, do you die? When the music stops… which happens? 1) You don’t find a chair 2) There is an explosion.
Don’t get me started on Nibiru, either. Sheesh. As a trained astronomer, the WHOLE IDEA of Nibiru is so stupid it makes me long for the Halcyon days when we discussed the Mayan Calendar! Get this… a PLANET wanders through the Solar System and causes WANTON DESTRUCTION* every 3600 years, yet… the planet Venus has an eccentricity in its orbit of 0.006? If it was any more of a circle, Barnum & Bailey would chase elephants around it!
*so, does anyone else hate Chinese dumplings?

  8. i agree with you. People are going to be all ridiculous about it, and they’ll make 2012 survival plans like they did with y2k, and then nothing’s going to happen just like at y2k.

  9. i think that it won’t happen
because they also thought the world will end in 2000

  10. LyKa_TaN

I think that its stupid. I’d rather live my life without such a thought to bug me. Who cares about the society. I know I wouldn’t lose my mind…
