What do you suppose will happen on 12-21-2012?
I have been mucking around with the different predictions on this: I personally think that it is going to be an awaking, an enlightenment, that will help mankind evolve to his next level… ultimately I would like to see mankind wean itself off the monetary nonsense that runs this world now and achieve success through personal accomplishment and fulfillment of self.

Only important event is Venus’ transit on June 5 and 6. Last time anyone reading this will be able to see one. Best get your solar filters now! Other than that, nothing else.
personally, I will be figuring out what to do on my 42nd birthday a few days later. I think get a babysitter, go out for a nice dinner. Something quiet.

Astronomy. We will have the winter solstice on that day. Coincidentally, the apparent path of the sun will cross the galactic equator on that day, as it does every year.
All the other hokum you have been exposed to is a lot of bunk. Of course, for those who just *have* to have some kind of doom thing, here’s a list I’ve collected.

“Mathematicians” say we’re overdue for some catastrophe. They guess 2012.
Solar storms kill us all because of the sudden loss of our magnetic field.
Eta Carina will hypernova and the gamma burst will wipe us out.
The sun is a binary. Its companion will destroy us.
Global warming will destroy civilization.
The Large Hadron Collider will annihilate us with little black holes.
The sun will explode.
The earth will explode. (At least this will end the pole-flipping problem.)

As far as new agey awakenings and next level nonsense? Sure, why not? But then you could claim that for any day you want, couldn’t you? And then you could make enough post hoc arguments of things that happened which supported your claim, just like you could for any other date.
It certainly won’t be ‘mankind evolving to the next level’. Evolution is a process that takes many generations. It NEVER happens within a single generation. An individual does not evolve, a population does.
Plus ‘evolving to the next level’ would only make sense if evolution had a purpose and direction, and it doesn’t. There’s no such thing as a ‘next level’. There is only adaptation to the current environment, whatever that happens to be.
2012 is a junk belief based on flawed interpretations of the mayan calender, a calender that wasn’t even accurate enough to get the correct length of a year. Everything else that has been fit into the 2012 myth (I Ching, Terrence McKenna, all the other new age stuff) is just people forcing their beliefs to fit 2012. It’s all about as unscientific as it can get, and it’s a kind of religion, based on faith instead of actual fact and evidence. What will happen on 12-21-2012 is that a lot of people will find out they’ve been fooled into buying into some BS. The only thing interesting for me will be watching to see if people admit they were wrong all along, or make up some excuses why nothing happened.

Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.
“But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come.” (Mark 13:32-33)
Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.
The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.
The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus’ advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.
Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

Awakening – yes. Some people are going to wake up that they have paid out good money on fraudulent books and videos, and wasted time on the net watching woo-woo clips and reading moronic websites. They are also going to realise that not everything that the Fox network transmits is worth watching, even if it is on the Discovery / History channels.
Nothing unusual. There’s no reason why modern events, much less the end of the world, should be accurately predicted by ancient bronze age calendars.
Scientists don’t expect anything out of the ordinary to happen in the year 2012, or specifically on the date December 21, other than the solstice, which happens every year.
None of the “predicted” happenings for 2012 hold up under close scrutiny. “Planet X” and “Nibiru” simply don’t exist. The Mayan calendar ends a cycle, but there were no predictions of the end of the world. The Sun doesn’t line up with the galactic centre; it’s 6 degrees off. No asteroids or comets are actually predicted to hit Earth.
All of this stuff was put together by crackpots in order to promote their books and TV shows, and shamelessly promoted by the History Channel. Don’t take any of it seriously!

Winter solstice 2012 is just the revealing of the ‘antichrist’ or the ‘man of sedition’ at the mid-point of what Christians call the 7 year Tribulation. Satanists and many pagan cultures from every corner of the world all throughout history have celebrated this like the Sumerians, Babylonians, Cherokee, Hopi, Chinese I-Ching (confirmed by Terence McKenna), Mayans (Pacal Votan; Chilam Balam of Tizimin, Mani, Chumayel; Jaguar Prophet), Egyptians, Celts, etc. This evil event is called “the abomination that causes desolation” that will be set up in the Jewish Temple’s Holy of Holies when the antichrist is imbued with the power of satan himself.
