It is that Mayan calendar ends them. Nothing more. God aks us to be ready. He said that no one knows but God.

The Maya themselves did not believe it to be the end of the world but of a cycle in their calendar, like our year 2000. They referred to dates thousands of years later in their inscriptions. Even so, they did believe it would mark a big change in the world.
I don’t consider it to be astrologically or astronomically significant, but i still believe it’s possible that it could provide some kind of rallying point on which people might focus to bring about some social, political and spiritual change. This would mean, however, practical activity on a massive scale. It’s not enough just to sit back and expect it to happen by magic, or even to perform a ritual or magic to achieve it.
Another aspect is the idea of the Singularity, that intellectual and technological culture accelerate exponentially until at some point they “shoot off the graph”. People who believe in this estimate that it will happen soon, and it’s possible that that would be in 2012. The idea is that after that point, change will take place so fast that it will be completely unpredictable, because for example there might be intelligent computers running the world. I personally don’t believe this, because i think the means exist to create a fair world where almost everyone is fed, healthy, housed and so on already, but it doesn’t happen, so even if such a change took place it would only help rich people. It also wouldn’t change the law of entropy – everything running out or wearing out.

Scientists know that the earth’s magnetic poles are reversing. The reversal will be completed on 12/21/2012. Pole reversals have occurred before on earth without much fanfare. This time it’s different. That’s because the poles of the sun are also reversing at the same rate and will be completed on the very same date at the very same minute – 11:11 GMT.
Some scientists believe nothing will happen. Others are convinced the results will be catastrophic. What’s interesting is that their predictions mirror the judgements outlined in Revelation 6.
As bad as it may get, it won’t be the end. Daniel’s 70th week, which is the last seven years of earth’s existence, immediately precedes the second coming of Jesus. But if the predicted catastrophes are those prophesied in Revelation 6, it could very well be the beginning of the end.
Watch the news. There are other events which must take place before the end comes. Damascus Syria, the oldest continually populated city on the world will be wiped off the face of the earth. A nuclear missle launched by Israel is the most likely scenario.
And Russia, together with a host of Asian and African Muslim nations, will invade Israel. They will be utterly defeated, not by the Israeli Army, but by God’s army. The devastation will be so swift and so extensive, there will be no doubt that it’s the hand of God.
The key to this invasion is Turkey. The bible says Turkey will be one of the invading nations. But right now Turkey is ruled by a secular military regime that is friendly with Israel. When you read about the Muslim majority overthrowing the military rule, the end will not be far off.

I think it probably will happen. I hope it doesn’t but i think it will. You or anyone can think will it come or not. It doesn’t matter what anyone says because its not for sure. I’d say the world will end because Y2K did not come. I m gonna stay up late on that day and hope it doesn’t come.
Wow your learning that in Socials?

  5. Trinity

    I will be graduating.
You’re learning about that in your social studies class? Woah, your school should start teaching fact instead of silly nonsense. Doesn’t social studies entail history? Which by the way, means learning about things that HAVE happened?
    ~ me.

    It’s four years away?
Seriously, no one knows the day or the hour. What you are seeing now IS the fulfillment of the prophecies that Jesus spoke regarding the last days but as for a specific year. There’s no indication in the scriptures at all.

I cannot believe they are actually teaching these “theories” and scare tactics in schools.
Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.
“But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come.” (Mark 13:32-33)
Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.
The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.
The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus’ advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.
Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

    With love in Christ.

    Fact – after 2011
    Fact – before 2013
    Just another year.
P.S. I am terribly disturbed that time in the public school system is being spent on this. One more example of why our students are far behind other nations.

  9. kkels111

its just another year big woop the mia calander ends the only one who really knows when the world will end is God. the mia people just didnt feel like making the calander go anyfarther people are looking to far into the whole 2012 thing

  10. 3rd eye

I believe that 2012 will be the worst Olympics in world history.
What do you think? Will Bolt retain the 100m crown?
Or is this some kind of end of days gibberish? No whatever it is, will not happen.

  11. rmm0097

They have said for years the world was going to end. Remember Y2K? People always find ways to freak out and to tell you the truth when the world ends will you really realize it?

  12. PattyAnn

Cassie, all I think of is the London Olympics. I do think 2012 will actually happen though, don’t you?
I feel we might be missing part of your question. I’m sorry. :-(

  13. Michael K

Just like Y2K and 2006 nothing will happen then either. People continuously try to give dates but nobody including the Son knows the time or date, but only the Father knows.

  14. Inanimate Phoenix Libre Thunked

It’s the end of the Mayan calendar. That’s all. The most exciting thing that will happen that year will probably be an election.

  15. S. J

Tell your teacher that it’s ridiculous, and he/she should know more about the Mayan calendar.
Tell her/him about the Julian calendar.

  16. dallas
