You probably know someone who is depressed. You may be wondering about yourself. The way you feel right now–does it fit the definition of depression? Clinical depression is a serious illness that affects millions, so you are right to be concerned. Understanding depression is a good first step toward treatment. Let’s see if we can figure this out together.

Feelings of sadness are normal. Everyone experiences a blue mood once in a while. But when feelings of sadness become your only feelings, and when a blue mood turns into a persistent black cloud, you may be suffering from depression.

Depression is an illness, a mental disorder that overwhelms your mind and body. It is not a transient mood that can be dismissed. The victim of depression is powerless to command it to leave. It changes how you think and how you feel. It essentially changes who you are and affects how you interact with others.

So how can you tell the difference between actual clinical depression and normal feelings of sadness. Essentially it’s about intensity and time. The feelings associated with depression are much more intense. Your character and your ability to cope with reality become severely affected. It becomes almost impossible to function on a daily basis.

Two weeks is typically the threshold for diagnosing depression. If after a negative life experience you are still withdrawn and sad after more than two weeks it is possible you have entered into a depressive episode. Without treatment a depressive episode can last for months, sometimes years.

How is depression treated? The good news is that depression is very treatable. Combining therapy with medication is usually quite effective. Investigating some of the newer “Energy Therapies” such as Emotional Freedom Techniques or Tapas Acupressure Technique can bring some impressive results and can be done in conjunction with traditional methods.

Depression can happen to anyone. It is not an affliction of those who are weak. Strong people can get depression as well. if you suspect that you may be suffering from depression, remember, the sooner you get help, the sooner you will feel better.

Orgasm is usually an enjoyable and positive experience for most people, however it can become less enjoyable for others who find that it triggers coital headaches. For these people, sexual activity of any type can result in coital headache attacks.

Technically, a headache, or cephalalgia, is a symptom of a number of different conditions of the head and sometimes the neck too. They can be classified into two main categories: primary or idiopathic, and symptomatic, although there are other ways of classifying them too; for example by severity.

Put simply, primary headaches have a known or unknown cause, whereas symptomatic headaches are often the result of injury. Primary headaches include: migraine, tension headaches, cluster headaches and coital headaches, amongst others.

Coital headaches, also called coital cephalalgia or sexual headaches, is a rare, but painful form of headache that starts in the nape of the neck during sexual intercourse, but before climax. It can occur in all conditions where climax is the expected result. The pain can move to behind the eyes and can then become even worse. Typically the pain will last from a few minutes to an hour or so, but it has been known to last for days in the worst cases.

It is surprising to many to discover that men are three times more likely to experience coital headaches than women and the age groups most at risk are those between 20 and 25 and 30 and 44. Doctors do not really knows why this should be. Coital headaches afflict about one percent of the population, although this number could be a lot higher because of people being embarrassed to discuss it.

Coital headaches are benign, meaning that they have no long-term ill effects, as far as we know. It seems that people taking sexual stimulants, like Viagara, are about 10% more at risk to a bout of coital headache. In fact, besides the obvious, temporary pain, the worst effects of coital headaches are differing levels of dizziness, confusion and stiffness of neck.

However, it is still worth while visiting a doctor though, especially in the beginning, just to exclude the more severe causes of headaches, such as brain tumours and blood clots. However, the doctor can do rather little to help by way of treatment. He could suggest a complete abstention from any form of sexual activity for a period varying from days to weeks or he may recommend trying taking medication some time before sexual foreplay commences.

Some of the headache medications that may be taken are indomethacin, imitrex, zomig and propranolol, although if the headaches continue, your doctor could recommend daily preventive medication. People suffering from frequent coital headaches may experience a positive response to migraine preventive medications, such as beta blockers or verapamil. Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen may similarly be helpful. Coital headaches and migraines are also more likely to occur if a person is in poor physical shape.

However, the treatment for coital headaches for a lot of people can be as simple as bringing your weight up or down to the normal weight for your size. Coital headaches can also be cured in some sufferers by an increased level of exercise, although this could bring on exertion headaches in a few cases.

Now the good news is that most headaches related to sexual activities are not at all serious in nature. In fact, research actually states that orgasm can relieve headaches and even migraine in some cases. This means that for some adults, refusing sex may actually be the cause of their headache in the first place.

Headaches of any kind are always very painful to the sufferer. However, some headaches, like migraines, for example, can create even more problems than just a headache. These problems could be nausea, sensitivity to light and a throbbing pain in the head. Sometimes the headache is felt on one side of the head, and other times you can feel the pain on both sides of your head at the same time.

The actual causes of migraine headaches has not yet been found, although there are some theories why people experience migraine headaches. The most common theory is that a change in the blood flow within the brain is one of the triggers that causes migraine headaches. Another theory about migraine headache is that it could possibly be caused by pain sensing chemicals called neuropeptides.

Many medical professionals think that neuropeptides ease the muscle that surrounds the cranial blood vessels. This relaxation causes the blood vessels to dilate. The relaxed blood vessels increase the flow of blood and other cranial fluid to the brain. This increase in fluids is thought to be the cause of migraine headaches.

These cranial fluids cause swelling, pain, sensitivity, tissue and blood vessel swelling during the time of migraine headaches. Some people think that the aura that is sometimes seen during a migraine headache is caused by the constriction of blood vessels that became dilated during the beginning phase of the migraine headache.

Another theory as to the causes of migraine headaches has been associated with the genetics of inheritance. These theories say that a child of migraine sufferers will have a 50% chance of getting migraine headaches too.

The chances of having migraine headaches becomes even greater if both parents are sufferers from this painful sort of headache. If both parents are known to have frequent migraine headaches the chances of the child inheriting migraine headache symptoms is about 70%.

Even though some professionals are persuaded that inheritance plays a big part in migraine headaches, the genes that are thought to be the causes of migraine headaches have not been identified or even isolated yet. When we start to experience migraine headaches the only warning signs that we may expect to receive are a throbbing pain in the temple area and light sickness.

As the symptoms of your migraine progress, the pain of the headaches become more severe. Unfortunately, since the causes of migraine headaches have not been found and we don’t know what triggers these attacks, there are no medications to cure these headaches yet.

I know we all have an idea what stress is like and how we behave during a stressful time. Some people can work excellently with the pressures that obstacles bring with them. Other people are overwhelmed by the tremendous pressure that they are experiencing. In many people this strain manifests itself as stress headaches.

Stress-related headaches are usually caused by extreme amounts of stressful situations; ie more than an individual would normally find themselves involved with. The ability to deal with these situations gradually diminishes and then stress starts to work on them and a stress headache can start.

Sometimes, having different kinds of headache can cause stress headaches just because we need to cope with the headache and get on with our everyday life. As the headache gradually takes charge of our life, we begin to feel stressed and unable to carry on. All of these headaches (including stress headaches) can be treated safely and, in some cases, prevented from recurring with the right drugs.

There are other methods of treating stress headaches apart from using medication. These methods include cognitive therapy, behavioural therapy and physical therapy.

Cognitive therapy seeks to ‘redirect’ a stress headache. In this method, the person is taught to understand what triggers the stress symptoms and how they can alter their response to these situations.

Behavioural therapy is the next way of treating stress headaches. When people become overwhelmed by a situation, they try coping with their headache by taking medication, alcohol, prescription tranquilizers, pain medications and some people also take street drugs. Since taking these substances can only provide temporary help, it is better to provide the tools to build a healthy lifestyle, which can help that person to cope better with their stress headaches.

Physical therapy tries using biofeedback responses. People, who experience stress headaches, are taught to recognize and reduce the amount of physical tension in their bodies. The treatments that are recommended for this method are muscle relaxation, deep breathing, yoga and other self-relaxation techniques. It is easy to understand what effect these measures have on sufferers of stress headaches, as these methods relax and calm the body.

The various techniques of therapy that were mentioned above are all interrelated. Using all three of these therapies, including headache medication, will provide the sufferer with a form of relief that can work for them for the rest of their lives and not just the short period when they are suffering from a stress headache.

Depression can be intimidating and hard to deal with. The good news is you can actually defeat its manifestations by altering or following new ways. The ways to beat depression are within your means and easily implemented if you put your heart to it. Life can be loaded with adversities that can make you feel anxious and sad. It is a situation everybody goes through and you don’t necessarily have to feel overwhelmed by it. You can improve your situation by learning how to take hold of your emotions that set off the feeling of depression. By knowing how to even out your unstable feelings, you’ll find it easy to overcome depression.

Stress is usually the culprit of your moods swings. Depression slowly inches its way towards you every time you feel strained and exhausted. If stress is your constant companion, you must know how to positively deal with it. You can relieve stress by venting it out on sports or pastimes that allow you to mingle with different kinds of people. Making new friends helps a lot in your effort to overcome depression since it can validate a sense of belonging. Newly acquired diversions will also help you stop thinking about depressing things and events.

Your way of life also influences the development of depression. Drinking habits and drug abuse only intensify your confused state of mind. It will do you a lot of good if you stop drinking alcohol or limit yourself to a decent amount every time you have to drink. Alcohol can never be an effective way to overcome depression. Seeking solace in alcohol every time depression hits you will not make your problems go away. In fact, you are going to face a much worse situation when you are no longer ruled by the spirits.

Keeping a positive outlook even if things aren’t going your way will help you overcome depression big time. Look hard into yourself and evaluate your capacities. Knowing your strengths and believing in them will boost your self-esteem and will eventually make you feel good about yourself. Assess the things that make you react negatively to certain situations. You might be surprised to find out that your fears have no grounds and you have nothing to gain from your negative thinking.

When you are suffering from a serious disease, it can cause you to wallow in self-pity and depression. Your family’s support can help you overcome depression during this time. Finding sense in your life even if you’re hampered by a disease can make a big difference. Your loved ones will fill a hole that has been opened by a feeling of inadequacy brought about by your illness.

Pampering yourself can prevent or overcome depression. Sometimes, it is easy to ignore your body’s needs when you are occupied by a lot of things especially your work. An overworked body is prone to depression so it is important to listen to it when it is begging for a rest. You owe it to yourself to treat it once in a while. Don’t take anything for granted especially if you feel like a trip to a doctor is required.

Continuous worry can mess up your life and lead you right into an anxiety disorder. That means high anxiety and it is really bad for your health!

There are quite a few reasons for this anxiety. Most of these reasons are inescapable and just have to be dealt with.

The fast pace of life now is the first reason and most people have to deal with it every day.

Since you’ll always have some anxiety at some level, it still doesn’t need be a health threat. There are things to do to lower your anxiousness by way of natural cures for anxiety.

As with anything, the key to success is actually following the typical anxiety focused recommendations. You have to really do it!

If you’d like to know how to cure anxiety these are the best natural cures for anxiety and they really just amount to living well.

First – You have to get plenty of good sleep at night. This is very important! Good sleep increases your mental ability which makes it easier for you to handle life’s problems which, in turn, lowers your anxiety.

Second – Get some regular, light exercise. Take one hour walks around your neighborhood. If you want strength, add some simple weight training.

Fourth – Eat better food! You know how to do it. Less red meat. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Cut back on sugar. Drink more water.

Fifth – Take a standard multi-vitamin just in case you are low on some vitamin. It can’t hurt.

Sixth – When you leave work…take your mind with you. It doesn’t help if you are worrying about work related things and you aren’t there to do anything about it.

Seven – Take a little time for yourself. Go to a movie. Take a bicycle ride! Pick a nice spot to sit watch people go by. Read a book. Do anything that relaxes you. Don’t forget your neighborhood walks!

If you start doing these things you’ll see a nice lowering effect on your anxiety level, and, since there are no drugs, these are definitely natural anxiety cures.

They are also inexpensive! So they are not out of reach of anybody’s budget.

When you are overwhelmed with anxiety, taking medicine could be effective for relief. Over time, more and more medicines are being discovered to help combat anxiety. Unfortunately, medications are just a temporary relief. This will leave you seeking more of a long term or permanent cure. Medications also come with side effects.

The list of drugs that are known to treat the symptoms of anxiety include anti-anxiety medications like the benzodiazepines, beta blockers or antidepressants. Although these drugs do the job temporarily, they are not the cure for anxiety sufferers. They only east the symptoms that can occur while having an anxiety attack. It’s important that you understand and get to the bottom of what is triggering the anxiety in the first place. There’s no benefit of taking medications only to have the symptoms resurface.

Always check your medication’s side effects. Many drugs for anxiety are known to have severe side effects that are harmful. Some medications are also very physically addicting, in which you’d have a tough time stopping them once you’ve started them. Anxiety medications could be a big help when trying to cope with anxiety, but they may not be a good idea for everyone.

The most common of the anti-anxiety drugs that are used today are the benzodiazepines such as Klonopin, Xanax, Ativan, and Valium. These types of drugs usually bring relief quickly. This makes them good not only for mild anxiety but even for panic attacks. But they can also have their downside.

Before you start using these medications, you need to be made aware of the way they work. These drugs work by slowing down the activity in your brain. Knowing that, it’s understandable that they have side effects. Awareness of these side effects are important to know before you start using them for your anxiety.

The more of a dosage that you need the more pronounced the side effects can be. These side effects can be feeling sleepy, or feeling like you are walking around in a fog. A loss of coordination can happen too when taking these drugs. This can make everyday activities hard to do. You can constantly feel like you have a hangover.

Benzodiazepines are known to breakdown in your body very slowly. Due to this happening you may eventually become heavily medicated. You may appear drunk or extremely sedated. Again we will go over all the different side effects of taking these drugs.

The most common side effects from benzodizephines are impaired judgement, dizziness, impaired thinking, loss of memory, slurred speech, drowsiness, clumsiness, depression, feeling disoriented, and blurry vision. These are the reasons it’s important to take these drugs cautiously, and to adhere to the directions on dosage to the tee.

Remember to always be sure that you double check that there are no cross reactions with other drugs before taking it. Serious side effects from mixing two of the wrong drugs can be avoided when you proceed with caution. The end result could make the drugs you are taking less effective, or you can even having a hard time breathing. If you feel drowsy when you take any medication, never drive while taking it. You could end up in a bad car accident, hurting yourself or someone else.

Now just remember that you also need other therapies along with any medication to truly do away with all anxiety.

Do you have a difficult time with anxiety? you would probably be surprised to find out exactly how many people are dealing with anxiety at any given time. As a matter of fact, some people deal with it so frequently that it overtakes their lives and makes them stay at home, out of fear of the next time they are going to experience one. There are a number of other problems which can go along with these anxiety attacks as well.

You might be surprised to learn that not everybody who is experiencing anxiety attacks have them in exactly the same way. Some people feel as if they are panicking and they don’t know exactly why it is that they’re having these overwhelming feelings. Other people may have additional expressions of the panic in their body that show up as medical problems, or at least mimic medical problems. Typical of panic attacks would include feeling as if you’re having a heart attack or breaking out in the cold sweats. Whenever an individual is suffering in such a way, it is difficult to reason with them and let them know that they are not actually dealing with one of these medical problems.

This is especially the case whenever somebody first starts having these panic attacks. The reason why this is the case is because the feelings are so overwhelming in many cases that they are unable to control them or even to recognize exactly where they are coming from. Over the course of time, you may be able to realize that all you are dealing with is panic but that doesn’t make it any easier to deal with in the long run.

If you would like to be able to overcome your panic attacks and to deal with them successfully, there are a few things that you can do which have proved to be helpful to many individuals. The most important thing is that you try something that is natural as many of the pharmaceutical medications that are taken for anxiety attacks may actually make you worse in the long run.

The first thing that is helpful to try is supplementing your diet with some type of vitamin or mineral. Many times, a simple program of supplementation is all that is necessary in order for you to overcome these anxiety attacks permanently. It may sound simplistic, but you would be surprised at how many people have spent years on anxiety medication without really having to do so. Supplement your diet, and you may experience relief.

Another way of dealing with anxiety attacks is to find a proper coping mechanism. Don’t try to fight your way through the attack, you will only end up weakened and unable to put up with the next attack that comes your way. Instead of doing this, you should simply allow yourself to rise up on top of the panic and to overcome it in that way.

If there is one thing that you should keep in mind, it is the fact that panic is not a disease. The anxiety that you are feeling is a symptom of another underlying problem and in many cases, it is your body’s way of telling you that something is wrong. Once you figure out what that something is, you can deal with it from there and overcome your panic, in many cases permanently.

Being a teenager is probably the happiest phase in ones life but it is also the phase when a person goes through feelings of infatuation, confusion, pressure, and wrong decisions. A typical teenager would feel the pressures brought about by changes in his or her body during puberty, peer pressure, and questions about love, identity, and where they belong. Also, this is usually the time when children begin to develop conflicts with their parents as they begin to assert their independence. With all this drama, it becomes difficult to tell if a teenager is depressed or is just going through the normal teenage mood swings.

Some of the signs which tell that your teenager needs help with depression include sadness, frequent crying or tearfulness, lack of enthusiasm in activities, restlessness, withdrawal from family or friends, anger, irritability, hopelessness, feeling of unexplained guilt, a sense of worthlessness, changes in sleeping and eating habits, difficulty in concentrating, lack of energy, and having thoughts of committing suicide or about death. If you are not sure whether these signs are just normal during teenage life or already symptoms of their need for help with depression management, consider how often these signs have been present, how intense they are and how different from his or her usual self your teenager has been acting.

When help with depression is not presented to teenagers, their situation might lead to worse results aside from melancholy. Majority of teenagers that are depressed tend to deal with their pain alone. And when this happens, teenagers may have problems with school, wild actions, drug abuse, sensitivity, self-injury, violence, suicidal behavior and eating problems.

Because of the very real danger of suicide, you must closely watch your teenager for any indications of suicidal behavior or thinking. Some of the warning signs include making jokes or talking about committing suicide, romanticizing death, saying something like There is no other way out, or Itll be a lot easier if I died, saying goodbye to family members or friends as if for good, getting involved in accidents that result in injury, writing poems or stories about dying, suicide, or death, trying to find ways to hurt or kill themselves such as seeking sharp objects or pills, and giving away valuable possessions. If your teenager is showing some of these signs, then there is almost no doubt that he or she needs help with depression.

The first thing to do is to converse with your teenager in a loving manner. Make him or her realize that you are there to show support. Make your teen open up to you about the phase he or she is going through and make him or her realize that you are always there when you are needed. If your teen does not budge, do not be tough. Instead, be gentle and caring. Once he or she starts to converse with you, just listen. Do not scold or reprimand him or her even if his or her source of depression is unreasonable. Acknowledge the pain your teen feels instead of forcing him to quit depression. Doing so will make him or her realize that you are serious about helping. You should always trust your instincts as well.

Once you have conversed, it would be wise to have your teenager go through some tests that may show if he or she is undergoing a serious medical condition. If the results show that your teen is not suffering from any medical condition, it is much better to ask for the services of a psychologist. The psychologist is the most credible person that may help you determine your teenagers source of depression.

Another fine example is when an active and social person who thrives on challenges would feel emotionally drained in a work environment that is without change and consistently performing the same tasks, when a person who prefers a stable condition would hate a job that is ever changing and never stays stagnant.

Another fine example is when an active and social person who thrives on challenges would feel emotionally drained in a work environment that is without change and consistently performing the same tasks, when a person who prefers a stable condition would hate a job that is ever changing and never stays stagnant.

Experts believe that many illnesses are directly tied to stress. If you find yourself becoming constantly ill, or you feel nervous much of the time, you need to develop strategies for coping. It should be noted, however, that stress management is a practiced art-you can’t expect to master it in a single day. However, if you keep at it, chances are you will learn ways to deal effectively with stress.

In order to deal with the pressure level effectively, you have to understand what is causing all this stress. Is it the constant dinner cooking work? Preparing for an important meeting or presentation with a big client? Or having to face the morning traffic rush hour? When you take the time to actually think about all these stress factors, you can actually manage the problems so they would not be that stressful. If you find the tasks of cooking dinner for your family every single day is too mind-boggling, then go out and have dinner outside at a fancy restaurant once a week just to break out of the mundane and endless task. If your work has become a heavy burden for you, you can divide the work properly so that you focus your mind into one task at a time. If you find your head suffering from headaches every time you approach the morning traffic jam, then try to wake up and leave for work earlier to avoid the crowd. The whole point of the examples is to stress the importance of recognizing how you can understand what is causing the mind pressure and how you can cut down their pressure level.

The next step is to try and contain you from reacting emotionally to the reason for the stress. Stress factors would only cause negative effects such as thinking negative thoughts and only thinking of the bad outcomes of the situation. People should instead make use of the outcome as a chance to learn something and become more mature. Think back to the times you faced pressure and whether your reaction is uncalled for. Maybe the situation is not as bad as it seems so take some time to reassess the situation. Another way is to keep reminding yourself that you are the only person who can control your emotions and feelings.

In order to take control of the stress level in your life, it is also important to determine how you react physically when you feel stressed. If you want to maintain full control, then try and take a deep breath every time you encounter stressful situations to decrease your increasing heart beat. If you come to the conclusion that you react too violently to the excessive pressure, then you can try and ask for prescribed medication from professionals. But, if you want to overcome stressful influences then the easiest way is to take a break from all the commotion. This will allow you to concentrate on how you can overcome the bad situation in a relaxing mood.

Besides the factors mentioned above in the article, it is important also to keep your body healthy and strong in order to fight stress. You can achieve this by having exercise sessions at least three times a week and also eat and drink healthy and nutritious food and beverages that will help maintain healthy body. Avoid consuming too many bad stimulants such as sweet sugar and also caffeine, and it is also crucial you have enough hours of sleep each night. By following these instructions you would be able to handle yourself when the situation is causing too much pressure in your mind.

You have to recognize that stress is an inevitable part of life. You cannot go through life coasting from one situation to the next and not expect to encounter some stress. However, with effective management techniques, you can turn stressful situations into opportunities for growth. The more strategies you invoke to deal with stressors, the happier and healthier you will be. But remember to start slowly and build up your emotional reserves. A gradual approach works best when it comes to stress management-otherwise, you could actually become stressed out by the pressure of it all.
