To be sure, due to his listlessness, lack of ambition, and less than stellar work attitude, he was out of work far more frequently than he was employed with a job.
Pete had a particularly hard time maintaining a job. To be sure, due to his listlessness, lack of ambition, and less than stellar work attitude, he was out of work far more frequently than he was employed with a job. What is more, when he did get employment, he usually received less than positive performance assessments, he had an awfully difficult time getting to work in a timely manner, and he called off sick so habitually that he commonly got fired a few months after he began working. It consequently should not come as a great surprise that one of the outcomes of Pete’s less than optimal work record was the fact that he was just about flat broke almost everyday.

Despite Pete’s financial misconduct and less than optimal employment history, ironically, he seemed to find a way to drink in an untroubled and immature manner virtually every day of the week.

So it came as no big surprise to his family, friends, and ex-coworkers when Pete was arrested for driving under the influence for the second time in the past year. When he went to court, the judge clearly stated to Pete that his alcohol-related actions was irresponsible and, as a consequence, he was going to fine him $2,500 and sentence him to serve one year in the local county jail.

While he was in the municipal jail, Pete was expected to learn about the harmful and devastating effects of hazardous and immature drinking, about alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction statistics and facts, and he was mandated to get professional alcohol treatment. The magistrate clearly fact that unless Pete gets professional alcohol therapy and discovers how to live a life of sobriety, he would without a doubt be spending many months locked up behind bars.

Pete claimed that he understood the magistrates message but he still believed that serving time in the local jail was not the right form of punishment. The magistrate, however, perceived things from a radically different perspective and told Pete that it was his duty to keep people off the highway who drink and drive and who get arrested for one or more DWIs. To back up his position, the magistrate listed some thoroughly researched, venerable alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency facts and statistics that clearly demonstrated some of the horror stores that are linked with driving and drinking.

In his heart of hearts, while Pete knew that he drank too much, he never considered the possibility that he was addicted to alcohol. So it was a real eye opener when Pete began suffering from symptoms of withdrawal just a few hours after going to jail.

According to the standard operating procedures, when a prisoner goes through alcohol withdrawal symptoms he or she is transferred to an alcohol abuse and alcohol treatment center and then brought back to the municipal jail. This is done so that the drinkers alcohol withdrawals are addressed in a safe and protected manner. While behind bars in the municipal jail, Pete went to alcohol counseling four days every week. Since his rehabilitation was mandated by the judge, however, Pete was reluctant to take ownership of his habitual drinking.

After his time in jail was finished, the magistrate in very explicit terms told Pete that he would be placed on probation for two years, he would be place under stringent observation, and he would have to periodically take breathalyzer tests at court-determined dates and times.

After discovering how Pete failed to take accountability for his drinking behavior and how reluctant he was in maintaining the rehab and treatment modus operandi while he was behind bars in the municipal jail, the magistrate knew that it was principally a matter of time before Pete would once again appear in court for his abusive and chronic drinking behavior. As the magistrate thought about Pete and his particular situation, he fairly easily arrived at the conclusion that some individuals never use their brain and discover how to live in a mature and accountable manner.

Bruce and Sherry have been in a dating relationship for seven years. They met while taking the same art appreciation class at a large state school located in central Minnesota. While they were primarily classmates their first two years at school, during their junior year they started dating one another.

Because Sherry and Bruce came from very old-fashioned families, neither one of them spent a lot of time drinking, unlike many of their college friends. As their dating relationship progressed, nonetheless, they got more involved in an increasing number of extracurricular activities such as fraternity and sorority parties, attending happy hour with their friends, football pep rallies, and spontaneous keg parties. Due to the fact that alcohol was so accessible at all of these events, over time they began to drink more and more as the semesters went by.

After they graduated with a BA degree, Sherry and Bruce decided to move to the big city that was located roughly seventy-five from their college and find an apartment that they could share. A few weeks after they moved in with one another, they were fortunate to find fairly good jobs in the same medium-size company.

After working at their place of employment for approximately two or three months, Bruce and Sherry found some other young couples that liked to party and drink. In fact, much like their undergraduate days at college, most of the functions and events they went to with their friends had something to do with heavy drinking. As a consequence, the more they hung out and partied with their friends, the more they engaged in abusive and dangerous drinking.

Something started to change in their relationship, however, after Sherry and Bruce had been living in the same apartment about a year. As improbable has it sounds, even though they continued to drink with their friends, their relationship grew. Now, instead of thinking about the next drinking event they would attend, however, they began discussing getting married, having children, and building a new house. In short, Sherry and Bruce began thinking about becoming more responsible adults who would be able to make more positive contributions to society.

With most significant changes in a persons life there is typically something that sets off the particular change in question. For Bruce and Sherry, the idea of moving out of their apartment and into a house, getting married, and starting a family was this change agent. Furthermore, for the first time that they could remember, they began wondering whether their hazardous drinking could negatively affect their health in the near future.

As Bruce and Sherry began to question their drinking, a number of other questions quickly arose. For instance, what would their abusive drinking do to their relationship? How would they be able to continue spending most of their money on drinking if they were to begin saving for a new house? How would their irresponsible drinking affect their mental health? How would they be able to face their parents and tell them about their long-term dreams, hopes, and aspirations while they still drank in a reckless manner as they did when they were in college? How responsible would they be if they had children and continued to drink in an immature manner? And finally, would their abusive and hazardous drinking negatively affect their ability to have children?

From a different way of looking at things, even though Bruce and Sherry never suffered through an alcohol overdose, experienced alcohol withdrawal symptoms, or received a DUI, they became conscious of the fact that their immature and irresponsible drinking was becoming a thorny issue that they could not sweep under the rug anymore.

The more that Bruce and Sherry thought about their drinking behavior, the more they reached the same conclusion: if they continued to drink in a hazardous way, their plans, hopes and dreams would probably not be reached.

Once Bruce and Sherry arrived at their short term game plan, they had a meeting with their friends and let them know that they had determined that they were gong to stop their hazardous drinking and their partying because they wanted to move into a house, get married, and start having children. To their wonder, their friends articulated a similar attitude because they had also concluded that their excessive drinking and partying was negatively affecting the realization of their future plans and goals.

After opening up to their friends about their future aspirations, hopes, and plans, Bruce and Sherry were happy to find out that they began having even better and more sound relationships with all of their drinking buddies. The primary reason for this was the fact that all of them now maintained a similar viewpoint regarding their party mentality and how their irresponsible and abusive drinking was negatively affecting their short and long-range goals, hopes, and aspirations.

Pete had an unusually hard time keeping a job. In fact, because of his lassitude, lack of motivation, and poor work attitude, he was out of a job far more often than he was in a job situation. Not only this, but when he did land a job, he frequently got less than optimal performance assessments, he had an exceedingly difficult time getting to work when his shift began, and he called off sick so frequently that he regularly got fired a month or two after he began working. It therefore should not come as a big shock realize that one of the effects of Pete’s terrible employment history was the fact that he was virtually broke on a day-to-day basis.

Regardless of Pete’s financial negligence and unacceptable employment history, paradoxically, he consistently made it his business to drink in an excessive and carefree manner from day to day.

So it came as no big shock to his ex-coworkers, family, and friends when Pete was arrested for driving under the influence for the third time in the past fourteen months. When he went before the court, the magistrate clearly stated to Pete that his alcohol-related actions was disgraceful and, consequently, he was going to fine him $5,000 and sentence him to one-and-a-half years in the local city jail.

Pete said that he understood the judges message but he still felt that spending many months in jail was not most appropriate way to deal with his drinking situation. The judge, nevertheless, saw things from a completely different vantage point and told Pete that he was obligated to keep individuals off the streets who drink and drive and who get arrested for driving under the influence. To reinforce his proclamation, the magistrate went over some highly researched, long-standing facts and statistics about alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse that unquestionably revealed some of the dreadful outcomes that are connected to drinking and driving.

In his heart of hearts, while Pete knew that he drank too much, he never considered the possibility that he was addicted to alcohol. So it was a real eye opener when Pete began suffering from symptoms of withdrawal just a few hours after going to jail.

According to protocol, when an inmate suffers from alcohol withdrawals he or she is rushed to a drug and alcohol rehab hospital for alcohol detoxification and then returned to the municipal jail. This is done so that the persons withdrawal symptoms are managed in a safe and secure manner. While locked up in the city jail Pete went to alcohol rehab two days per week. Since, however, his alcohol treatment was mandated by the court, Pete did not take ownership of his reckless drinking.

After his jail time had come to a close, the judge in very clear terms emphasized to Pete that he would be placed on probation for 18 months, he would be placed under strict observation, and he would have to undergo occasional random blood alcohol tests.
