Lucid Dreaming – Is There A Shortcut?

by Jamie Barry

Lucid dreaming, also known as conscious dreaming, is the ability for one to be aware that one is actually dreaming. In other words, if you have a dream and you’re actually aware of the fact that the events which are taking place are not really happening, but that it’s only a dream, then you’re having a lucid dream. Furthermore, one can also have a certain amount of control over a lucid dream which of course is not the case with a regular dream.

The undeniable fact is; that feeling of power which one experiences when one can control the direction of a dream, is something directly out of metaphysical existence. To a great extent, many of the limitations with which you’ve learned to live, simply vanish.

But, is it really easy as it looks? Can everyone experience lucid dreaming and bring to life that which would otherwise seems difficult or impossible in reality?

The truth is; lucid dreaming is by no means a difficult task. In fact, if you are serious about learning, then there are various ways you can try which have been tried and tested.

First and foremost, you must be absolutely clear about your objective in trying to master the art of lucid dreaming. Do you just want to have your own private playground in the form of lucid dreams, or is there some other specific reason for developing this skill? Whatever may be the reason, it should be crystal clear in your mind.

Once you have this level of clarity in your mind, the learning can start. Firstly, you need to learn a process; called “Dream Recall”, i.e., recalling a dream you had the previous night. Unless you remember a dream, you can’t achieve the stage of lucid dreaming.

Admittedly, this process can be incredibly slow although it should be noted that you can achieve this goal by means of a “dream recall register”, which in essence will allow you to write down and many details as you can remember regarding each dream you have. While progress may be slow in the beginning, with time you’ll soon come to discover that you are now able to remember even the finest details of a dream.

For many people, hypnosis has proved to be an invaluable tool with regards to reducing the time required in order to prepare your subconscious mind. In many cases it requires no more than one or two such sessions in order to reach a point where you are able to remember all your dreams on a consistent basis. Once you’ve acquired this ability then you can be rest assured your mind has been suitably conditioned for lucid dreaming.

A phenomenon which you can expect to experience when in a lucid dream is to suddenly find yourself wide awake. However, considering that by now you will have gathered enough experience and developed enough skill, you will simply be able to go back to sleep and continue the dream where you left off. Of course, you’ll once again have the power to direct the direction of that dream as you see fit.

Another method which comes highly recommended, is that you go back to sleep again after you wake up. You can do this simply by setting your alarm to go off an hour or two before you’re scheduled to get up. When the alarm goes off, turn it off and go back to sleep. These dreams are the closest to lucid dreams and you can be rest assured, you’ll start wondering if they were even dreams to start off with.

As you can more than likely imagine, it can be hugely beneficial to keep a track of your sleeping patterns so as to afford you the opportunity to see when will be the best time for you to have lucid dreams.

Interestingly enough, lucid dreaming is also known for its ability to help people cope with various sleeping disorders such as insomnia. If you have difficulty in falling asleep you simply need to persuade your mind that going to sleep and lucid dreaming go hand in hand. It will only be a matter of time before your mind takes charge and takes care of any thoughts which may be preventing you from sleeping.

Fortunately for those wanting to learn the art of lucid dreaming, the process has become a lot easier than it was in the not too distant past, thanks mainly to advances in sound technologies.

Many people who are just starting out find that the quickest way for them to have a lucid dream, is by taking advantage of binaural beats.

Not only do these beets help to align brain waves to the correct frequency required for lucid dreaming, but as they are played in different frequencies in each ear, they have a wonderful relaxing affect.

Unfortunately, before this technology recently became available, the only sure way to enable you to experience a lucid dream, was by means of meditation techniques. Of course, because such techniques can often take years to master, many people were put off from learning this skill.

Listening to binaural beats is without a doubt an invaluable step towards experiencing lucid dreaming, particularly if it is combined with a little bit of hypnosis. This will without question prepare your mind and enable you to experience lucid dreaming just a short while after you first try.
