    Hoax.
I think that 2012 is going to be just another year.
One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or 7057.5 years. The next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is an interesting discussion topic and something with which to scare people.
Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.
“But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come.” (Mark 13:32-33)
Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.
The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.
The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus’ advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.
Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

    With love in Christ.

I don’t think it’s actually meaning the end of the world. It could be that it was the Mayans and other ancient civilizations just got tired of calculating. I prefer to believe that if anything will be happening, it will just be a slight change, something more felt than seen. Quite possibly the Mayans may have believed it would be a point at which human beings would transcend time. Of course, that’s easily doubtful, along with the speculation it’s going to be the end of the world.

Well its not as hoax as its not happened yet. Anything could happen we’ll just have to wait and see :-) Maybe the Earth poles will finally swap seeing we are long over due for it to happen again, or maybe unicorns will fall from the sky ;-)
All i do know is that its 1 day after my 30th birthday and thats a real sod.

This is kinda difficult to explain but this situation was set up Buy a very primitive people… And I am talking about people that believed that a lunar eclipse was a world ending event and that they stopped the world ending because they cut the hearts out of a 100 people…. Now what I believe is that something that we consider normal is going to happen and they manage to add it to their calender… But they consider what ever it is… They see it as dangerous…. But I believe it will be just another cosmic event………….

“This happens every time, countless people in the past predicted doomsday on ex year, and each time it was proven wrong”
This date was said several times from several ancient civilations that had no way of contacting each other and saying (Hey did you come up it with the same answer)

I think it is shades of Y2K. Remember how all the computers on earth were supposed to fail and we would be pitched into darkness and starve because of our total dependence upon computers.
I believe that 12/21/12 will come and go in much the same way…with people gnashing their teeth and repenting on 12/21/12 only to wake up on 12/22/12 with nothing changed. Same old sh!t, different day.

Go watch the Penn And Teller on the End of the World or the prediction of such.

The very fact you are questioning it shows you are unsure yourself.

  9. Lastofth

Its all speculation. The end of the world has been predicted so many times, and its all been bogus. Enjoy your life.

No, I think the Mayans just got tired of calculating, so they ended their calender on 2012.

  11. Matt

Exactly what Martin said. It hasn’t happened so it can’t be a hoax, and Doomsday on that date is unlikely.

That’s when all us alien prisoners of earth will be released.
