How did the Mayans predict that a pole shift will happen in 2012?
There is a significant chance that we may experience a pole shift in 2012. Our sun is due for its 11 year cyclical pole shift, at that time. Due to the influence of a planetary alignment, also scheduled, at that time, our Earth may shift its poles too. NASA has already confirmed that the Earth’s north magnetic pole has started to migrate to the South Atlantic. It has also detected a diminishing magnetic field that accompany pole shifts.
According to some Mayans, this date marks the end of the long count of their calendar; Set to end on a winter solstice (12-21-12). On this date, our Solar system will be center aligned , in the Milky Way’s equator. Our sun will be centered in a position called “The Tree of Life”, as it does every 25,800 years. In this position, unusually violent sun spot activity may cause a pole shift. Earthquakes, tsunamis, and floods will run ramped. Significant loss of life will occur. Earths magnetic field will temporarily collapse. Humans will be exposed to a cosmic energy that will facilitate enlightenment. Geologist Gregg Branden gave a lecture back in 1996. He spoke of how ancient traditions and beliefs, of the coming new age, can be explained in the language of modern science. He shows there may definitely be something to the Mayan predictions about a (pole shift) as well as life ending as we know it. In fact, he claims Earth’s rotation as well as its magnetic field are already in a gradual deceleration and decline. Further, at its current rate, both should approach “Zero” on 12/21/2012. They didn’t. The pole shift doesn’t happen all at once, genius. It happens over the course of a couple hundred years. Instead of reading a bunch of sensationalist propaganda, why don’t you read some geology papers on pole shifts so you can understand what they’re really like? The Earth has had many pole shifts in the past, and none of them appeared to disrupt life one bit. Nor were pole shifts ever associated with a change in the magnetic field or with the core’s rotation. Gregg Branden is widely regarded as a crazy-pants with crazy-pants ideas in geology. I wouldn’t take anything he says seriously.
The 2012 event is not a pole shift, but the Earth crossing the galactic center. It will make a pretty pattern in the night sky in areas where you can see the Milky Way. That’s about all that’ll happen. Sorry to bust your bubble.
The Mayans didnt predict their own demise so why should I take any part of their calender seriously.

i am familiar with this mayan theory and it is strangely intriguing. Usually when i hear this appocalypse crap i just laugh. But this stuff actually holds some sustinance. thanks for sharing
