Depression options: what else can I try?

yoga depression


I have struggled with clinical depression for twenty five years, I’ve tried all kinds of help (spiritual, yoga, talk therapy, medication, exercise) but never got anywhere with any of those options. What else is there to a try?

  3. exercise. my personal favorite is hiking, but you might not be able to right now depending on where you are.

  4. HYPNO THERAPY maybe or meditation. meditation is awesome stuff.

  5. Try different Anti-depressants and a zanax or valium for anxiety. The anti-depressants may have to be changed a few times til you find the right one to fit your needs.

The mildest form of medication coupled with an action that you enjoy- dancing, reading, exercise, volunteering, pet care, putting yourself out there so that someone or something depends on you to come through for them. Sometimes getting through the dark times for ourselves is not enough, it has to be for an outside source we believe in and care about.

  7. have you tried the help you mentioned together or separately? maybe you need to find a combination of things that will work. or maybe you need to find a doctor or counselor. you said you tried therapy. did you go to only one counselor? or did you try a couple of them. sometimes you have to keep trying before you find one who can understand and help you. good luck

  8. There are multiple antidepressant medications out there. Keep trying. But avoid ECT at all costs. Re: Trevor’s answer, he sounds like he needs help with self esteem. Someone who would post an answer like that needs to know how to get good attention.

  10. Why don’t you get yourself with a good doctor or someplace that will help. I go to Magellan Health Services which used to be called Value Options. This place is in the Phoenix, Arizona area. Make calls and see if you can get a hold of such a place in your area. Not only do they have psychiatrists, but nurses, all kinds of counselors who can help you with just about anything. They even employ other people with mental illnesses so you know the folks who are there to help you really will. They will help you with anything you want. Please look into it for your own good.

    Perception is everything.If you have dark thoughts try thinking about something positive,climb a mountain,get sea air,spend lots of time outside.Walking is effective.

If you have tried multiple classes of antidepressant medications (SSRI, SNRI, TCA, MAOI, etc), ECT is one of the most effective treatments for depression, with less side effects than some medications and well studied. Make sure potential medical causes of depression, such as hypothyroidism, have already been ruled out.

  13. Visit shut-ins, hospice, etc.people less fortunate than you. This will help put things in perspective, count your blessings. If people don’t appeal to you try volunteer work at an animal shelter/rescue. Find a worthwhile cause that appeals to you.

  14. I just kind of stick to indulging in a lot of sex and a fitness regime these days. The dopamines help reduce depression.

    staying active is crucial. I have people very close to me who suffer from depression and I try my best to keep them distracted and busy. We are now into chanting and music therapy. sex lots of sex too.

  16. Nothing that I can suggest you ha vent already tried. I am now on maximum dosage of 3 medications..they help but Im still not all that happy.
    Grin and bear it. You can always eat to get happy.
