Can Someone Explain To Me The Cataclysm That Is Predicted To Happen On 2012?
I have been wondering for a while now why 2012 is a year that cataclysmic events will occur. Can anyone give me a brief explanation of why it will occur and what might possibly happen? If so, what are the chances of it happening?

There are various types of bad astronomy that are suggested as the disaster of 2012. None of them has any scientific validity.
1) collision with an extra, previously detected planet in the Solar system, Planet X or Niburu.
2) reversal of the Earth’s magnetic field [this has in fact been going on for centuries and will continue for millenia to come].
3) reversal of the Earth’s spin [ an impossible combination of 1 & 2 ]
4) something bad resulting from passing through the plane of the Milky Way [ the solar system has been passing through the mid-plane of the Milky Way for the past few million years, and is a little over halfway through now].
5) something bad happening from planetary alignments [there is no particular unusual alignment in 2012
6) an asteroid strike [there are no known asteroids that will hit the Earth any time in the next 50 years]
7) comet strike [ this is possible, but is a very rare event; no known comets are on a collision course].
To answer your last question, the chances of the predicted disasters to happen for the reasons put forward is zero. There is concern over the magnetosphere, since the discovery that magnetospheric alignment with the field of the Sun does not necessarily mean a stronger field. However, the Mayan calendar theory, Nibiru and galactic alignment are all BS.
The Mayan calendar ends one cycle in 2012, and the next cycle is supposed to herald an age of spiritual ascension. People have interpreted this as mass deaths causing souls to ascend to Heaven; however, spiritual ascension could also mean that people will grow wiser.
Some people claim we are heading towards an alignment between Earth, the Sun and the galactic centre, and that this will create gravitational disruptions and increased solar activity, destroying Earth. This is BS, since we are moving away from such an alignment.
Nibiru is a supposed runaway planetoid or similar object that will crash into Earth, or cause it to flip upside down in either true or magnetic poles. This object has not been spotted, and if it had, it would be monitored closely, perhaps nuked to prevent such a disaster. Also, people claim it is too far away to be seen, but any object with a size large enough to create such devastation would have to travel at about 1/4th the speed of light to reach us in time, if it were that far away. Such speeds are impossible for such an object without tearing itself apart completely.
Therefore, all the theories are BS. Magnetosphere discoveries are the only concerns among scientists right now, and they have not been given a highly serious status at the moment.
The real mayan calendar prophecy is the return of their god Quetzalcoatl. The Mayan Calendar actually started with the Olmecs not the Mayas. The Olmecs were given this calendar by their god Quetzalcoatl, the Mayans called him Kukulcan or Ququmatz, to the Ancient Egyptians he was known as Thoth. According to ancient texts Quetzalcoatl/, before he left, promised that he would return, and his return would be at the end of a cycle(December 21,2012). In fact in 1519 the Aztecs mistook the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes as Quetzalcoatl. In 1519, when Cortes and his men showed up in what is now Veracruz, the natives greeted them with gifts thinking that it was the promised return of their god, not knowing that the Spaniards were there to take over their land, it ultimately led to the fall of the Aztec Empire. So will anything happen in 2012. The answer is no because the real end date of this calendar is not really 2012 but 2087(apporximately) so if anything will happen it’ll happen then.
The Mayan Calendar makes NO doomsday CLAIMS because 2012 is merely the end of a cycle. We are currently approaching the end of the 4th Mayan cycle. That means that Doomsday has happened THREE times before. For the ancient Maya it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle. To render December 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting is a complete fabrication- and a chance for a lot of people to cash in.
People who promote 2012 are doing so to sell books and advertising on their doomsday shows. After each “predicted” doomsday passes with nothing happening there is a new one invented. I have watched the 2012 Doomsday program on the History (Hysteria) Channel. The content isn’t about any real 2012 event happening and it isn’t about history. It is about selling books and selling advertising on the TV programs.
There is no scientific theory that anything unusual is going to happen in 2012. ZERO scientists believe that anything out of the ordinary will happen in 2012. It is all total CRAP. These people are interested in one thing – MONEY. And by listening to their programs and/or buying their books you provide them with – MONEY. The more MONEY they make the more twists and turns they invent to make it more interesting so you will listen to new TV programs so they can make even MORE MONEY.
If you had hogwash to sell wouldn’t you try and package it so looked like prime rib? That is just what these shysters are doing… selling to those who will listen – HOGWASH. Drink deep!!! They need MORE MONEY. They need YOUR MONEY.
By the way… 2012 isn’t the first Doomsday prediction. Here is a link to other Doomsday predictions from the past and present…

THERE HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF DOOMSDAY PREDICTIONS… and none have come true.
I’m hoping for a zombie apocalypse myself. I’ve been stockpiling ammo for a long time, so I’m prepared!
I don’t think anything is going to happen, though. The year 2012 came and went 247 years ago by the Runic calendar. Since that’s the one I use, that’s the only one that counts, right? ;-p
Nothing will happen. If the Mayans were actually accurate with their predictions, they would have foreseen their own demise. The world will not end in 2012.
The fundies have grabbed onto Mayan mythology and made it part of their own belief structure.
Well first there will be nothing different. then after that there will be uhh wut was it oh yeah NOTHING, and the day after ppl wud start saying about 2013. yay…..
Nothing will happened,by now you should have seen nibiru or whatever the hell it is from earth, and if anything happens happens you can’t control it!
Yes, I can explain it as imaginary nonsense.
nuthin
I can tell you that I already have my atheist agenda for 2013, so go figure.
I think it will just be some huge new world order type thing :3 That’d be cool.
